Current Projects:
North norfolk heritage property restoration
Recommended by satisfied clients with similar historic properties, the owners reached out to us for expertise in restoring The Friary—an esteemed Grade II* listed building in Blakeney. Given its prominence, the project holds significant interest for the North Norfolk conservation department, the parish council, and English Heritage.
After understanding the clients’ vision, we helped secure the necessary permissions, consulted with specialist trades, and developed a thorough structural repair package. Our detailed schedule of works ensured the project was fully prepared to be undertaken.
Having agreed terms with our clients and helped with the specifying of green energy solutions which work with the lime and breathability of the house our tasks now are to begin the careful removal of cement-based repairs and unsuitable modern plasters that have accumulated over the past century. This process will allow us to reinstate the property’s breathability, protecting timbers and masonry that have stood for more than 500 years.
A full scaffold and temporary protective wrapping have been installed to shield the building while work progresses. The chimneys will be rebuilt and lined to support open fires, preserving their original function while reinforcing structural stability. Roof repairs will include the replacement of defective timbers and wall plates, ensuring a secure framework before installing new coverings.
A green heating system will be integrated to complement the property’s breathable materials, ensuring energy efficiency without compromising authenticity. Lime-based wall and floor insulation will further enhance thermal performance while retaining the building’s traditional character.
Structural repairs will address cracks, masonry weaknesses, and compromised lintels, ensuring long-term durability. Hot lime repointing will be applied throughout to restore the building’s aesthetic while strengthening its integrity. Landscaping will complete the project, balancing historical charm with practical enhancements.
